The challenge involves a minimum of 10,000 feet of ascent and descent,
approximately 20 miles of walking and a road trip of 460 miles... Kate says “The
three peaks challenge is recognised as a serious test of mental and physical
stamina and it's typical of Phil to choose something that will test him so
completely." She adds " We have become good friends this past year - we're
both passionate about the outdoors and about demonstrating what people can
achieve by overcoming adversity. This is the perfect Sport Relief challenge for
us and I will be very proud to walk with Phil every step of the way."
AL HUMPHREYS
"The Three Peaks is one of Britain's best known and most respected
challenges. I was privileged to have worked with Phil on last year's expeditions
and am really looking forward to taking on another arduous challenge with Phil
that will help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people around the
world"
SIR STEVE REDGRAVE
“ I’m thrilled to have been given the opportunity to join Phil in completing his 3
peak challenge. I admire and respect Phil for all his incredible achievements
and efforts for charity. Last year I was honoured to have been asked to
present Phil with his London Marathon medal and additionally present the
Helen Rollason award at the BBC Sports Personality awards. He takes on all
his challenges with inspiring attitude and determination, all with the aim of
improving the lives of those in need.
I am really excited about joining Phil on this expedition to raise money for
Sport relief, a charity which I have been closely involved with for many years.”
"I have had the pleasure of supporting Phil through last year's Marathon and
will support him again throughout this year's 2010 Virgin London Marathon.
Completing this arduous challenge with his injuries is a huge undertaking
and yet again he is pushing himself to the very limit. This really shows the
strength and determination of the man and how far he has come in just two
years. It's a pleasure to be part of this journey".
MARTYN BIRD
"Phil Packer is an incredible person, inspiring so many people and yet so
modest. His efforts to overcome a personal situation by raising money and
awareness for others demonstrates this. Phil will not accept defeat and
always challenges to achieve a goal, often against all odds or expectations.
I am proud to support him in this small way and feel privileged to be
regarded as a close friend."
JAMES WOOD
ANDY KIRKPATRICK
"Climbing any of these mountains in March is a big undertaking, with
success being far from being assured. Add in one of the worst winters
in living memory and a bloke who's not so great on his feet, plus the
fact he has to do them all in three days, and you have quite an
challenge on your hands. I'm sure it'll be a grand adventure!"
PHIL PACKER
“To ask others for support, I believe you have to show you are willing to give
your all to a cause and are willing to show your commitment and dedication. I
hope this Sport Relief challenge will be inspiring and will enthuse others to
give to this tremendous organisation. For so many life can be challenging and
at times it can be hard to cope with. Sport Relief has the ability to assist,
support and improve the lives of so many, but to do so it needs our help and I
hope our challenge will encourage others to rise to the challenge and be a part
of Sport Relief this year.”
